THINGS TO SEE AND DO IN PRAGUE 2020
Prague isn’t a complicated city. You can have a walk and you will be able to go by a lot of city attractions. Stroll around at night and you will see beautifully illuminated buildings taking your breath away. Let’s take a look at some of the places you must visit, when in Prague.
We have decided to break this down into four sections, depending on which area of the city you are going to.
NEW TOWN
Mucha Museum – Alfons Mucha, who was the famous art nouveau artist was famous for creating fin-de-siècle Paris posters of French actress Sarah Bernhardt. This place is the beautiful pictorial reminder of what he did and this is the place you must pay a visit.
Municipal House – Another masterpiece, the Municipal House was recently restored. You can take a guided tour for $10 only, or you can decide to just look at it from the outside. The decision is yours.
Wenceslas Square – Once a horse market, this beautiful boulevard is a lively shopping area with a large statue of St. Wenceslas. Shop and don’t forget to visit the statue as well.
OLD TOWN
Charles Bridge – It would be unfair to start talking about Old Town without beginning it from the introduction of the Charles Bridge. This bridge alone is the reason people decide to visit Prague. Built-in 1357, it is easily one of the beautiful bridges in the world that leaves you mesmerized, especially at the night time. Visit it during the sunset and you will be awed. Anyways, it is a must-visit because there is no way you will be able to go to the Castle District without crossing the river.
Charge of Our Lady Before Tyn – The gigantic gothic spires of this church are not to be missed. It is completely free to visit and a must to go to when you are in the old town.
Museum Of Medieval Art – Another gothic museum, as the name suggests, is the place for art lovers who love to see primate art.
Old Town Square – This is where the fun happened at. Goes without saying that this Town Square is the emblem of the square in Prague’s Old Town. The best part about this square is it is the place where you will get to go about the city’s some of the most famous sights. From Church of Our Lady before Tyn to Clock Tower, and Old Town Hall, you can walk to these attractions. Don’t eat anything here, as the square is the major tourist attraction, so the prices are sky-high.
Old Town Hall & Astronomical Clock Tower – The Old Town Hall also houses the 600-year-old breath-taking astronomical clock. This place attracts thousands of tourists every day. Pay it a visit at least once, but make sure you keep your belongings intact because this is the place the Czech pickpockets like to hang out the most.
CASTLE DISTRICT
St. Vitus Cathedral – St. Vitus Cathedral is an architectural wonder that was completed in 600 years. If you buy the Prague Castle ticket, you get the free admission to the Cathedral since it is within the Castle complex. If you want to visit the special areas, you will have to pay a little extra to get access to them,
Prague Castle – This castle is spread around 70,000 sq. m and it clearly dominates Prague’s skyline. It has the title of the biggest ancient castle in the world. Among the other things, it has magnificent Old Royal Palace, Basilica St. George, and Vitus Cathedral. The ticket will be nearly $14.
Lobkowicz Palace – Lobkowicz Palace is also situated in the Prague Castle grounds, but it was privately owned by the Lobkowicz family. It has the collections of the family, the museum which has the largest and the oldest privately owned art collection in the Czech Republic. It will cost you $11 to visit it.
JOSEFOV – JEWISH QUARTER
Old-New Synagogue – Old-New is the oldest synagogue in Europe and the oldest outside Israel as well. It is a marvel and a wonder to visit.
Old Jewish Cemetery – It is the largest Jewish cemetery in Europe and the gravestones go back to the 5th Century. The kind of place that will leave you in awe and chills both.
FREE WALKING TOUR
You know these are always the highlight of our travel guides. Highly recommended for all those who are traveling on a budget. Take any walking or bike tour on your first day in the city, as it is a great way to not only meet with the locals but get the essence of what Prague is about.
The free walking tour will be enough to give you a brief overview of the city, but if you want detailed information and guidance, you will have to pay the charges.
DAY TRIPS FROM PRAGUE
Prague alone is enough to give you the time of your life, but if you have some extra days at your hand, there are some amazing destinations nearby you should pay a visit to. Here are some of the beautiful cities you might consider checking out.
Cesky Krumlov
The most popular castle town that most of the tourists go to as well. Cesky Krumlov is also otherwise called as a pocket-sized Prague, but the best thing is it doesn’t have the same touristy feel. You can spend a day here and can stay overnight if you want to. For less than $10, you can get a 3-hour direct bus to Cesky Krumlov.
Kutna Hora
If you are someone who enjoys creepy stuff, this is the place you must go to. This primitive town is famous for Sedlec Ossuary, otherwise known as the Bone Church. The church has the bones of over 70,000 people. Scary enough?
