H0W TO TRAVEL VENICE UNDER $100?
Duration
Most of the people spend one day in Venice. Even though we recommend, at least two to three full days, but today we are going to restrict you and your budget for one perfect day in Venice. Visit the city in Fall around September – October as the weather is perfect and isn’t too touristy as well, so you will save money.
Accommodation
The first thing you will have to do is to find accommodation that doesn’t break your bank. Hence, we suggest you go to Booking.com, but for a budget challenge that we have given ourselves, Hostel World is the best option. You can get a dorm for as low as $16. Moreover, Couchsurfing is another albeit best option, if you are comfortable staying with a stranger local. You won’t have to spend a penny on staying anywhere else.
Pro tip: Stay at Lido Island to save yourself some extra money.
Transportation in Venice
Walk around Venice, because that’s the best way you can save money on transportation. Otherwise, you have Water Taxis, which are costlier and Vaporetto which charge around $7 for 75 minutes. So, multiply the cost depending on how much you have to use them. Never use a taxi, because you won’t believe the amount they will charge.
Food & Drinks
Venice’s food is really bad. So, you won’t feel guilty if you are eating cheap, because you won’t be missing out on a lot of things. We recommend you go to local markets, grocery stores or fish markets to get the catch of the day. You will be able to price your day’s meal at around $20 this way. We recommend you keep an empty bottle and drink tap water, as it is super clean to save yourself some money.
Moreover, the nightlife in Venice is lit but it is expensive. Ask your hostel staff to guide you towards a cheap pub or bar depending on the kind of money you have left. But you can definitely spring by a nice beer for $10.
Sightseeing
There is a lot to see and so in Venice, especially museums and basilicas but they come with a hefty cost. However, some places you can cover under your $100 budget for Venice can be The Piazza San Marco, Murano Island, Lido Island, Jewish Ghetto, National Archaeological Museum, and Bridge of Sighs. These all will fall in your remaining budget after food, transport, and accommodation. Unfortunately, you will have to miss the gondola ride on this budget. However, you can take a city-wide boat tour, and visit Venetian markets as well. Moreover, do take a free walking tour early in the morning to see all the attractions you otherwise don’t have time or extra transportation money.
